our story

Accessibly modern and ethically produced, Summers the Label gives you clothing to be worn through several seasons of each year, and for many years. Offering free shipping New Zealand-wide on all orders, and easy returns.

Previously known as Aida Maeby, Summers the Label makes you three promises:

  • To produce all garments locally in New Zealand
  • To use only the highest quality, natural fabrics possible, mixed with limited edition deadstock garments. Deadstock fabric refers to material purchased at the end of its life from wholesalers or fabrics reclaimed from other projects to prevent waste.
  • To donate a minimum of $4 from the sale of each garment to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, in order to aid their research, support and advocacy programmes.

Special emphasis is placed on respecting our resources by minimizing waste as well as making responsible fabric choices, to create timeless and lasting pieces for you to keep in your wardrobe. All design and production takes place in Wellington in order to reduce garment travel and ensure ethical production practices.

After losing a close friend to breast cancer in 2017, designer Jess Matthews decided to rebrand her clothing label in her honour, as well as developing a donation system to support other women in the same position. Your purchase of Summers the Label supports the work of the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ through an automatic donation of $4 per garment, rising to 10% of all sales through our website during the month of October.
